SURVIVING OPEN BARS
In the festive season when all pooja related events have taken place and next pooja related event is Diwali itself, there is period of time during which a lot of parties are happening mostly called tash parties for gambling, drinking and having a good time. None of your college type getting shitfaced scenes. I went to one of these parties and it was a family event. I must've drank only 3 whiskey sours, 4 gin and tonic, 1 glass of red wine, 3 beers,1 whiskey on the rocks and a mojito but instead of the white liquor there was whiskey AS FAR AS I can recall. I got up with a slightly puffy face and just a touch of a headache which got over after my shit sesh. Sounds too much right?
What if I told you that one can drink a lot and not get hangovers? I have listed some drinking tips based on personal experiences and experiences of friends.You may already know these so no need to be all "MERE KO TO PATA HI NAHI THAAAAAA".

Drink tips :-
- Choose your company wisely - You don't want negativity around you. Because when you're drunk your emotions are sensitive and on steroids. You dont want a (I hate the term) BT .It doesn't matter what you drink, It's who you drink it with.
- Sip Slow - If you're gonna have a lot and you know it, start slow. It doesn't matter what you choose. Sip Sip and you should be buzzed by the second drink (30 ml drinks or beers).
- CHAKHNA - Namkeen or salty savouries. Having peanuts or chips while drinking is good because alcohol dehydrates and salt retains water. So, there is some science behind it right there.
- Have a Glass of water for every drink you have - if you've had 3 to 5 drinks in a row. I would recommend (tell you to rather) having a glass of water (200 ml). This way you can have break from drinking (Sippin slow, always remember) and wont get dehydrated and you'll love the buzz. Trust me on this.
- PISS-A-lot - The more you piss, the more you can drink. After you have had your drinks and water or while you have your drinks and water you'll automatically would want to piss. Pissing is like a release. Consider this to be another break. Take a deep breath and take your time. You're probably buzzed af so enjoy the moment.
- Eat food - If it's a dinner thing, do not avoid food. If there are snacks do not avoid it. Salt retains water- very important.
- Liquor etiquette- If you're doing shots after your buzz program please do shots of drinks which are had as shots like tequila or flavoured liquor. Do not do whiskey or rum shots. I have done it and I regretted it instantly. I personally don't recommend vodka shots because I hate it but you can do it in case you're broke and/or a chick and/or in college. Remember to chase it with water at least (see 4th point).
ONE SECOND...
If you still have a hangover because you obviously didnt follow the program here are some
Hangover tips:-
- Do Not Oversleep because you dont feel alright. Get up the first time your sleep breaks.
- Take a shit.
- If you have discomfort all over your body inside and out .See if you want to puke. It works like a miracle. After puking "all discomfort" = gone.
- Drink chilled fresh lime water aka SHIKANJI aka nimbu paani aka nimbu lemon minus the masala. A lot of it.
- If still you feel like shit, have some food- things from McDonalds's breakfast menu or a banana and/or milk. These work for me. Don't know about you.
- Have coffee - Don' t do too much caffeine with black coffee or Red bull. Have a cappuccino or a latte or a cold coffee.
- Have a bath. Baptise. Paap Dholo apne.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
When you are drinking never compromise on price. Always drink the good stuff. But sometimes even good (not too expensive) priced liquor turn out to be shitty like Absolut or even Bombay Sapphire and there is an exception of Old Monk which is cheap yet legendary.
Always have a certain brand or at least type of liquor which is your holy grail. Mine is Rum, Brand used to be old monk but things change, people change and feelings change too.
Explore cocktails and flavoured liquors.
Mix drinks only if you follow the program given above and dont have your "holy grail" available.
This will sound like a buzzkill but KNOW YOUR LIMIT. If you don't know your drinking limit, there is only one way to find out.
Always be respectful to others. Never bring anyone down or molest anyone. Have a good time. Even if you say anything embarrassing just say the words "I was drunk", own it and move on with your lives.
Don't drink and drive - not because you can't drive after drinking. Everybody can drive (after at most 5 drinks) but if you get stopped by the cops its a shit show.
