I went to a poetry slam once
People who know me personally would know that I have been into rap since a very young age and rap music has had a lot of influence on me in my life. Due to the influence I even tried to write rhymes and perform whenever I could during college. Honestly my raps weren't brilliant till the day I was infatuated with this girl then she said no and "broke my heart" (long story for another day), then I wrote something which was unbelievably dope for a part time rapper like myself. But I couldn't write whenever I wanted, only when I was really emotional (sad mostly, in love, angry etc) I could bring out some real creativity. Then I thought this was an excuse for the creatively challenged self at the time. But then one day after my college had ended and now I'm back in my city, I go to see these crazy ass creative people at a Poetry slam but by the end of it, I realised there is a lot of sadness which makes people write. I was sad to see that but appreciated the talent. Now because I was sad I wrote a poem in that manner which is supposed to be performed but just fuckin read it for now:-
They say Poets are sad, or let's say strong on emotion
Poets are the deprived souls that were brave enough not kill themselves
Deprived of love, respect, acceptance
Acceptance ?
What do you write for
Feminism, love, God, yourself???
Validation of your existence
Validation of your problem
Validation of the shit you've been thru
Or just letting everyone in on your pain
Or connecting through the mutual pain
Or you do it for the people who came here to chill
I do it for the thrill
Of being on stage
I'm at an age
where don't I don't know where I'm going
Questioning my knowing
Throwing
opportunities away because they Are too hot
Not approaching some girls because they are too hot?
*pauses*
NOT! *loud emphasis*
validation of the phenomenon know as I
For you it's THE NAAG
For me it's the saag
With makke Di roti
they flashing lights in my face
They tell me I'm going OT (overtime)
BUT I gotta do my thang yo
I'm gonna take my time
Write a Cliché line about me tryna find rhymes
For my next line
They told me to take that opportunity
So that I don't regret not taking it later in life
I would hit on chicks if only I would see a wife
Yes I used to be old school like that
Started writing things like raps
Just so I could get that
